Randomized completion axillary lymph node dissection vs no further axillary surgery in women with 1-2 positive sentinel nodes treated with lumpectomy and whole-breast radiation.

Population

Clinical T1-2, node-negative breast cancer with 1-2 positive sentinel nodes undergoing breast conservation.

Primary Endpoint

overall survival (OS)

Key Result

No difference in survival or locoregional recurrence with omission of axillary dissection, at 10-year follow-up, with far less lymphedema.
