Cytisinicline — Investigational Agent

Other · Approved Abroad / Investigational in US · Achieve Life Sciences

Mechanism of Action

A plant-derived alkaloid (from Cytisus laburnum) that is a partial agonist at the α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor — a mechanism nearly identical to varenicline. It provides enough receptor stimulation to ease withdrawal and cravings while blocking inhaled nicotine from binding, reducing the reward of smoking. It has been used for smoking cessation in Central and Eastern Europe for decades.
